Purpose of the Position:
This global finance role will be a proactive business partner, providing finance expertise and support for financial and operational decision making as well as the achievement of key strategic initiatives. In addition, this role will be the key contributor to the production of the Corning Optical Communications (COC) internal reporting and analysis, support internal and external audit activities as well as drive compliance with all Corning Optical Communications and Corning Inc. policies and procedures. Lastly, this position will focus on process improvement for all COC closing and compliance activities, driving to create a world class organization.
Day to Day
Responsibilities:
Coordinate month end closing activities for all COC business units, ensuring timely and accurate completion;
Execute month end closing activities for specific COC cost centers/departments, including recording accruals and other judgmental accounts as well as account reconciliations;
Ensure completeness, accuracy of all COC product code/legal entity activity each month, including FX, Specials;
Provide support as needed to audit engagements staffed with the outsourced internal audit team to ensure locations have an appropriate understanding of expectations;
Summarize audit deficiencies identified by the companys internal and external auditors throughout the year, driving countermeasures to address these findings;
Assist in Sarbanes-Oxley controls scoping, planning, documentation and testing and providing training/assistance across COCs global plant locations to ensure consistent application of control procedures;
Assess newly acquired entities to determine the current status of their control environment. Provide guidance and training on internal controls and policies / procedures;
Provide analytical support for the P&A team to develop and prepare for internal presentations related to our long range plans as well as monthly quarterly communications;
Support efforts to create weekly monthly forecast, budget (Black Book) and five year plan (Green Book) processes for the Optical Communications sector.
Partner with business partners/other functional groups to help them understand financial results, performance metrics and improve decision making capabilities through data;
Other projects supporting Optical Communications objectives and targets on an as needed basis;
Reporting Structure: Reports to Manager, Financial Reporting, Corning Optical Communications
Travel Requirements: 25%, including international
Required Education:
Bachelors degree in Accounting/Finance plus 3-5 years relevant experience;
CPA or CMA;
Previous experience in public accounting firm and/or finance position(s) in a Fortune 500 multinational corporation preferred;
Prefer previous manufacturing experience;

Demonstrated ability to process large amounts of data into simple, easily understood talking points;
Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects and customers at the highest service levels;
Excellent problem solving capabilities;
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people in different time zones/cultures;
Expertise in Excel, PowerPoint;
Desired Skills:
Performance Excellence experience (Six Sigma, lean processes) a plus;
Proficiency in PeopleSoft SAP Khalix a plus;
Soft Skills:
Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with Corning Incorporated, divisional finance teams and business customers/suppliers at all levels of the organization;
Comfortable challenging supplied inputs and questioning existing processes;
High energy, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work with minimal supervision in a fast changing environment;
Strong communication skills (verbal and written);

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
